As the biotechnology sector evolves rapidly, the question of how to translate breakthrough research into scalable, market-ready innovation has become central. Beyond capital and talent, two critical — yet often underestimated — drivers of biotech scalability are scientific infrastructure and regional development policy. This session explores how targeted investment in high-tech incubators, coordinated research centers, and cross-sectoral collaboration can create fertile ground for biotech success.
Taking Castilla y León as a case study, we will explore how strategic initiatives — such as Abioinnova, the region High-Tech Incubator for Bio-Based Innovation, and the growing health biotech hub in Salamanca — are transforming local potential into international impact. With support from regional authorities, innovation agencies, and scientific institutions, this emerging ecosystem exemplifies how place-based innovation policy can catalyze the growth of a biosanitary innovation pole.
Representatives of will share concrete examples of how infrastructure, public-private partnerships, and policy alignment have enabled startups to move from concept to clinical or industrial scale.
This session is a must-attend for biotech entrepreneurs, innovation policymakers, and research institutions looking to build or strengthen their local biotech ecosystems with global ambitions.
